A good start!

January usually starts out good, and this year is no exception! A large increase in freight has caused southeast freight prices to rise. Hopefully this can continue so shipping will have a strong year.
Fuel prices have also stayed low, but for the past few weeks have stayed about the same. It’d be great to see another large drop with the new year taking off!

Well 2012 is in the books. It was an up and down year with mixed reviews. Lets get 2013 off to a strong start! Lower fuel prices should help shippers looking to get a head start on orders. And it should also help carriers improve on those tight margins.
Weather and road conditions have been good, so safe and on time deliveries have been consistent.

Its been great weather in the midwest! Safe driving conditions and on time deliveries are what trucking companies hope for, and late November temps of 50 degrees are perfect!

Did you know that for every 10 psi your tires are underinflated fuel mpg drops 1 percent?  Also adjusting your 5th wheel to narrow the trailer gap to 30 inches is optimal. For every 10 inch increase, drag rises  2 percent.

Everyone be safe out there. Remember, no matter how safe you are out there, other people can ruin your day!

Thanksgiving Week

Turkey, football, friends and family (and a few naps) are what most people enjoy on Thanksgiving. It is also one of the top two travelling days of the year. So be careful, you never know how safe the other drivers are.

U.S. Freight would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

This has been a nice week for fuel. A drop of 8.6 cents ahead of Hurricane Sandy is nice, but prices are still higher than last year at this time. With oil still sliding maybe it will continue lower.

Fleet Maintenance is important in any fleet. Safety and Productivity are the direct result of a well maintained program. Take any extra time you have to go over your equipment a second time or third time. Preventive maintenance is a must!

Fuel pressure relief, Trailer seal security.

It appears that the refinery fires and shutdowns that have caused fuel prices to remain high are finally back online. These shortages, real or imagined by speculators are a constant burden to the transportation industry. Lower fuel prices will really help bolster a weak economy!

A problem that seems to be coming up more frequently is seal tampering. Anyone can cut or remove a seal. Some companies will actually refuse a load ,Even if you padlock the trailer or use a door bar lock, they dont care. To combat this, we recommend the ENFORCER* Seal Guard Lock. This sturdy, ingenious device will protect your seals from tampering.

Freight Upswing…Fuel Holding…FMCSA crash study

Freight has seemed to be trending up. After a very slow month, freight in slow areas has picked up. A good sign with the potential holiday shipment rush.

Fuel prices are holding steady, although still very high. We can only hope some relief is on the way. No natural disasters or talks of war are a great start!

The FMCSA has agreed to study crash accountability. This has been needed for quite some time. The guilty until proven innocent reasoning that is currently used is unfair. A trained accident investigator who files a report about the accident is an expert. So its obvious that their investigation is the best determiner of accountability.

Remember everyone, be safe out there. Take your time and drive professionally!

It’s Brake Safety Week! From Sept. 9-15, particular attention is being paid to braking systems, and inspectors across the country will participate to both enforce the safety regulations and educate drivers, and maintenance personnel through numerous efforts coordinated by federal, state and local agencies and industry. CVSA anticipates enforcement agencies inspecting nearly 30,000 vehicles this week. Make sure everyone is keeping those brakes adjusted and all equipment and paperwork in order.

Be safe out there. Remember to watch out for those drivers around you. You cant control how they drive!

CSA has announced some changes to the BASIC categories. Fatigued Driving will be changing to “hours of service compliance”. I think this will be better and more specific than a blanket fatigue category. Gulf Coast refineries were shut down to prepare for Hurricane Isaac. Prices spiked 5 cents overnight. Proof that speculators run up the fuel prices based on news and not hard facts. If we could get the oil futures under control it would go a long way toward better fuel prices. Better fuel prices brings down maufacturing and shipping costs all the way around and would surely help turn the economy around!
Stay safe everyone, take the time to be a safe, courteous driver. Watch those around you. No matter how safely you drive, you can’t control how people drive around you!

Fire results in increased prices

A fire last week at a major oil refinery in California appears to be one of the big factors behind a sharp rise in regional and national diesel prices during the week ended Monday, Aug. 13. The national average retail diesel price soared 11.5 cents to $3.96 a gallon, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. It was the sixth straight increase for diesel prices and the largest one-week jump since the week ended March 7, 2011.
As usual fuel prices increase overnight, but take weeks to come back down. Stay safe everyone, take the time to be a safe, courteous driver. Watch those around you. No matter how safely you drive, you can’t control how people drive around you!
